LESSONS IM TEACHING MY TWEEN DAUGHTERS PART 1🖤 This stage of parenting is not for the weak. My daughters & I are truly as close as could be, we have the best talks & bond, we spend so much time together, but these years have so much change in a short period of time. The child years are slowly leaving them behind. They are into clothes & sneakers, skincare/makeup, nails, alllll the girly things. Theres changes in friendships, I’m bracing for first heartaches & heartbreaks, girl drama & allllll the other tween/teen things that come up. Me & the girls have always made it a priority to talk about everythinggggggg & it has made them so emotionally aware & intelligent. As these new years approach, here are some of the things we are & will continue to talk about on repeat. 1) Friendships Change: You can have a friend that you had all through childhood, but as you are getting older, maybe you are interests change, personalities change, & you may grow apart. That’s OK & sometimes you will find your way back to each other, but it is normal to experience this. 2) Be Careful Who You Trust: This can mean with who you like, something personal, something embarrassing, whatever it is. Not everyone needs to know your business or can be trusted & especially at these ages. Once you tell someone something, you can’t ever be sure they won’t repeat it. Be very careful. 3) Be Ready To Explain Yourself: This one I have said for years. Whether it’s a text, message, call, anything you put out there to someone else, be ready to explain it to me, their parent, your teacher, your principal. If you can’t explain it to me or them, it doesn’t belong in writing. 4) Social Media is a Huge Responsibility (and Permanent): This goes back to my days working as a counselor in a school. It was so long ago, but even then social media was a big issue & my students couldn’t understand why they were getting in trouble for things that happened at home, not realizing it’s all connected. Watch what you post, it’s never truly gone. Deleting doesn’t matter. It’s out there forever. Part 2 Soon!🖤
