Connu pour ses clichés surréalistes oscillant souvent entre abstraction pure et narration, Ralph Gibson est également un acteur majeur dans l’histoire du livre photographique. Il fonde en 1970 sa propre maison d’édition Lustrum Press, au sein de laquelle il offre aux photographes publiés – Robert Frank, Larry Clark... – un champ d’expérimentations inédit, tout en se démarquant par l’exigence des reproductions, notamment dans le traitement des noirs, si caractéristiques de son œuvre. - "I firmly believe that photographs, once taken, become objects of the world in their own right.
