Back to racing slightly earlier than planned: the opportunity came up to enter a road crit and I thought I'd never "feel ready" to go back to racing, so why not jump back in now?
Despite doing my first bike race five years ago, yesterday felt a bit like a fresh start which was nice. True to form, the nerves started to kick in a few hours before, but in a strange way I kinda missed that feeling and so embraced it.
I always find going back racing on a bike with brakes is a bit weird for me, but I tried to settle in and get used to the feeling of being out on the road. It was clear yesterday that my bunch skills have a long way to go (hanging out at the back until I got dropped), but I'm actually excited this time around to put the work in.
I've never raced at Hillingdon before but the atmosphere at the finish line was great, and it came as a nice surprise to have some support from the sidelines too!
Next up will be Women's League at Herne Hill next weekend and I'm looking forward to returning to more familiar territory for some racing on the track.
