I remember when I made the pivotal decision to leave my job as a lawyer in Nigeria and purse my dreams of being a visual artist in NY. I remember how I believed that my art will be held by the major auction houses of the world. To many, this dream seemed far fetched, I will be honest in saying that I also questioned myself at times, but something deep inside me convinced me that I was on a unique path. Arriving in NY, I remember walking by @sothebys and envisioning my art on the walls and being sold there one day. I also remember thinking how I knew my path will not be conventional to achieving this. Fast forward years later and I’m happy to announce that 5 of my pieces are on sale at @sothebys starting today. I didn’t go through a gallery, but directly to the auction house. This is a rare feat and I hope this inspires other artists of color, particularly from Africa to know what is possible.
