Say hi to Mambou! Mambou was rescued from the illegal trade in wildlife as an infant. After being transferred to the Brazzaville Zoo, he was brought to his new home at JGI’s Tchimpounga sanctuary in Republic of the Congo. Upon arrival, Mambou was suffering from anemia, an infection, and a fever. It took many weeks, but the caregivers were able to help him recover and soon enough he was able to be integrated with other chimpanzees. Today Mambou lives on one of JGI’s sanctuary islands, a place where he can thrive with his chimpanzee community in a more natural environment. Mambou loves to splash around in the water and climb high into the tree canopies. Despite the difficulty faced, Mambou’s resilient spirit pushed on. Become (or gift) a Chimp Guardian today!
