The History of Wacky Wacko Part 2 by @sethbogartofficial
(Continued from the last post.)
So even though WW started as a record label in 2012, things shifted the next year when a friend convinced me to start making t-shirts that weren’t just for my bands (which was Hunx and His Punx at the time). She was like, “People like your drawings but not always your bands (lol), you should make t-shirts with drawings of other stuff”.
I took their advice and in 2013 starting making clothes under the brand name Wacky Wacko. The early designs included drawings of famous & obscure pop stars/icons, perfume bottles, poodles, tampons, “lather” daddies and a shirt campaigning for a certain famous drag queen to be president. To my surprise, it took off really quickly!! I was able to quit my part time day job as a hair inspector (that helped pay the bills when I wasn’t on tour) and got to focus on Wacky Wacko full time. Around this time I stopped releasing music on Wacky Wacko Records (until 2020 when we released my solo album “Men on the Verge of Nothing” )
Over the years we have gotten to collaborate with so many cool artists, opened a shop for a couple years (that was open one day a week- genius for business -ha ha) and raised money for important organizations like Sylvia Rivera Law Project, Planned Parenthood, Loveland Foundation, Downtown Women’s Center, LUCHA, LA LGBT Center and many more.
I love the idea of art being accessible to all, to be worn, to be consumed for a small price and then even thrown away. Thank you so much for supporting this small company for the last 10 years- it means a lot to us. We will be reissuing styles from the past over the next 6 months to celebrate our anniversary. First drop is tomorrow.
XOXO
