Emmett Louis Till born on this day in 1941. He would be turning 81 if not lynched at age 14 by a mob of white southerners for speaking to a white woman. The assailants were acquitted by an all white jury, but later proudly admitted to kidnapping Till, torturing him, putting a bullet in his brain and tossing him into the Tallahatchie River, weighed down by a fan blade. His mother decided to publicize the heavily mutilated face and body of his corpse, thus sparking the modern civil rights movement. #emmetttill #civilrights
