A “glow up” implies a major improvement - a better version of yourself - but the best version of yourself is NOT necessarily the smallest version of yourself. When losing weight is RELENTLESSLY referred to as a “glow up” it breeds the ASSUMPTION that if you are not losing weight, you have no “glow”, no value, no worth, and nothing to bring to this world UNTIL you do. The pressure on women to be constantly SHRINKING our bodies is nothing new. From the moment we are aware of the world around us we are PROGRAMMED to believe that we have to spend the rest of our lives LIMITING the space we take up! Your “glow up” should never be RESTRICTED to a physical transformation because becoming the best version of you will always be when you are empowered body AND mind, regardless of the weight on the scale. It’s achieving the goals you never thought you would, it’s leaving toxic relationships that drain your energy, it’s untangling yourself from beliefs that no longer serve you and it’s building the confidence you have ALWAYS deserved! Despite the pressures you face from society, you will speak to yourself more than ANYONE else over the course of your life and you will always believe everything YOU tell yourself. If you are CONSTANTLY telling yourself you are worthless and a failure because of a weight on the scale, you will believe these things to be true at your CORE. You CANNOT change self punishing behaviours until you start to believe you don’t deserve to be punished. Kindness and compassion are INTEGRAL if you truly want to heal the relationship you have with your body! Remind yourself as many times as you need to that you can have body fat and still be HEALTHY. You can have body fat and still be STRONG. And you can have body fat and still be HAPPY. The real “glow up” is stepping into the POWER of who you are, knowing everything you have to offer this world has nothing to do with the size, shape or weight of your body, and it NEVER will ✨
