t’was 9 years ago today that I saved a special Sunday Chronicle from the Phoenix hotel lobby because I found within it this review from @aidin.vaziri on my self-released debut ‘Ether Ore’. I got a ‘man sitting upright’, which I think would be like a 6.5 on @pitchfork (where I’m currently serving a lifetime ban). Seeing my picture in the city paper was a surprise, because I didn’t have a label or an agent or a ‘pr machine’ behind me, I just wrote a note to Aidin and somehow got him to listen. This record was made in the Hayward residence of my dear friend @lucassterlingboilon - who engineered the tracking & mixing completely analog on an Otari 1/2” reel-to-reel machine. @brettaustineastman contributed drums but other than that it was a very stripped bare affair: mostly just me picking an old nylon string guitar in the soft-ceiling dining room of a mid-century house. It’s definitely flawed, and yet I could never reproduce it. I put it out on vintage postcards that I would pick up from gas station thrift shops on tours that year, each stamped with the album name & containing a handwritten dl code. I still have a few in my merch suitcase, if you the reader are interested. 9 is my life path number and it’s also a number that indicates the precipice of your next harmony/alignment... so it seems fitting that I’ll be self-releasing a new record later this year 💫. thanks for listening. xo~ Yours Unruly #tbt
