This piece has had the placeholder name “70s kitchen” for a long time, but I think a more fitting title would be “Forgotten Yesterdays”. Or maybe that should be the name of the series this belongs to... I’ve always had these vivid memories of places I feel like I’ve visited, yet know for certain that I haven’t. Almost like my brain had created different spaces out of actual places from reality that I have visited. There’s always been a desire to visit or recreate these familiar spaces, but I never got around to trying. For my art final in May, I took on the challenge of creating different art pieces reflecting my memories that never were. One of the pieces that took the longest was this obscure 70s kitchen. A lot of time went into planning each of the separate paper pieces before painting them in gouache, along with cutting the plexiglass for the windows, and eventually bringing everything together. I chose paper art in order to bring perspective and three dimensionality to the piece, which gives the impression you could almost walk into the scene. I’m fairly happy with how this piece turned out, and I’m hoping to create more art that delves into these memories and liminal spaces in the future 🕗
