Good news! The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park reopened as of 1:15 pm on December 21, 2022. Those visiting for sunset should anticipate long lines at the entrance station. Parking at the summit is limited and fills up fast, be flexible and consider alternative sunset viewing locations. Drive the speed limit and stop for wildlife on the roadways! What’s Open? • Headquarters Visitor Center at 7,000 feet, open until 4:00 pm. • Hosmer Grove Campground • Sunrise operations to resume as normal for December 22, 2022. Reservations must be for December 22, 2022 only. • All trails open for day use only. Day use hikers enter the crater at their own risk. What’s Closed? • Haleakalā Visitor Center at 9,740 feet remains closed, however the parking lot and restrooms are open. • All wilderness cabin and wilderness tent camping reservations for December 21, 2022, remain canceled. Park communication infrastructure has been damaged by the storm to the extent that emergency response and communication may not be available.
