American photographer William Klein has died age 96, according to the International Center of Photography, where a major retrospective of his work is currently on show.⁠ ⁠ Klein’s seven-decade career spanned art, street photography, documentaries and fashion shoots for the likes of Vogue.⁠ ⁠ Working primarily in black and white, he often turned his lens on the joy and hardships of city life. Whether in his native New York, his adopted home of Paris or metropolises like Tokyo or Moscow, he uncovered profoundly human stories, earning him some of his profession’s highest accolades, including an Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award at the 2011 Sony World Photography Awards.⁠ ⁠ #WilliamKlein #photography
