Meet Oakley! She’s a Newfoundland that has a very important job - she’s a water rescue dog! Newfoundlands were originally used by fisherman and explorers because of their incredible work ethic, love for water and gentle giant demeanor. Surprisingly, Newfies are excellent swimmers due to their webbed paws, intense double coat, great lung capacity and they swim more like a human (breast stroke) than the standard doggy paddle! Oakley showed natural interest in the water since she was a puppy and began formal water training shortly after. She now has several certificates and recently completed a new milestone: jumping from a helicopter to complete a rescue! In her free time Oakley does water safety demonstrations and classes within her community - teaching people how to avoid requiring a water rescue!
