Chandelier IV (Fallen Chandelier), 2022. [5 hours] All my gratitude to @klausbiesenbach, @lisa_btti and the entire @neue_nationalgalerie team for inviting me to perform in one of my favourite buildings on earth as part of Variations on Simone Forti. This work had to be substantially modified due to a material error (“Materialfehler”). During my performance, one of the tension beams in the ceiling that i was suspended from came loose and fell. Fortunately, nobody got hurt by the falling beam, and I was able to land on my feet without injury. The NNG team handled the incident with grace and adaptability; i can’t thank them enough supporting my decision to finish the piece. Together, in the span of 5min, the curators and I came up with what was essentially a new piece on the spot. I can’t tell you how many (probably most) of my works have been derailed in some way or another by technical errors — Chandelier IV took on a completely new form after the fall, but i believe that pushing through and fulfilling the natural trajectory of a piece is as much a part of the work as the original intent.
