2024 was a ROUGH year for movies, so instead of ranking its best movies, here’s a list of my favs from all time that I just happened to watch this year. 1. Marcel The Shell With Shoes On - Jenny Slate, my future wife, what a cute tiny talking shell you make. 2. Free Fire - Cillian Murphy attempts to survive 90 minute shoot out. Also Brie Larson and like 12 other solid bros are there. 3. Flora And Son - Director John Carney is the king of Dublin-set indie movies about struggling musicians. I’ll never not love these. 4. Double Indemnity - Barbara Stanwyck, you sneaky femme fatale you. 5. Jules - Ghandi hangs out with quiet Alien. They kill cats. 6. Blink Twice - The only film on this list actually released in 2024. Haunting and funny and anxiety-inducing. Best Channing performance of his career. 7. The Hollow Crown: Richard II - Ben Whishaw and Patrick Stewart take the potential for Shakespeare adaptations...and they raise it. 8. Alice In The Cities - Wim Wenders understands the human soul in ways I only wish to understand. 9. Theater Camp - Ben Platt got me with Pitch Perfect. He lost me with Dear Evan Hansen. He got me back with Theater Camp. Also Ayo Edebiri deserved more with her role, what an icon. 10. Kajillionaire - Richard Jenkins is always a win. Also, this movie about a family of con artists just so weird I love it.
