I penned some thoughts about the women’s game’s conditional inclusivity in the aftermath of @lionesses ’ historic @weuro2022 win for @elleuk . Without criticising the team and coach or taking anything away from such an incredible achievement, I’m concerned that the win will be used to justify why women of colour, trans people and other marginalised communities may continue to be excluded on and off the pitch at every level. If it ain’t broke, why fix it doesn’t cut it here – certain privileges and nuances aren’t being acknowledged, and short-term issue awareness plus temporary solutions help to a point but they’re jarring. We need deeper answers and changes, not just surface, performative ones. Thank you so much to @kateehui who has been doing brilliant things with @hackneylaces since 2011 (please support it as there are a number of deserving initiatives working with young women around the country beyond the obvious one); @nicolemmapearl who co-founded @baesianzfc to celebrate and centre women, non binary and trans people of Asian heritage(representation that’s seriously lacking elsewhere); and @_hannahlily who plays for @goaldiggers_fc (who welcome and reserve spaces for marginalised and minoritised players) kindly sent me their thoughts and solutions too. And thank you again to @hlucynat for the opportunity. Link in bio to read it 💥🙃❤️‍🔥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
