The ghost town of McCarthy, Alaska is the most wild place I have ever experienced, a bastion for ungovernable freaks where people go to secede from polite society to ride four wheelers and shoot guns and eat whale meat and not pay taxes. Against all odds and in a total affront to the laws of gravity, I hiked 7 miles of pure ice and climbed a glacier with agricultural grade cramp-ons tethered to my sneakers and then ate sap off a tree and drank 10.0 ABV beers in a 101 year old cabin with the state geographer lit by torch light - and to cap it all off, I saw the worlds largest wooden structure (which was very anticlimactic after drinking glacier melt beneath the worlds tallest ice fall). Monday was truly one of the best days of my life. Thank you Jake, Ben, Jessica and Jared for nearly killing me. I’ll sincerely never forget it.
