Posted @withregram • @alizaedelman “I Dreamt the Landscape Was Looking at Me,” a video trilogy by @jessicasofiamitrani on view @lamamagalleria, is the perfect refuge for an afternoon of contemplation about place, site, and space. We were fortunate enough to have the artist walk us through the installation: she explained her recent period during Covid spent in her homeland, Chia, near Bogotá, Colombia; the influential ideas of Jungian alchemy on feminist and colonial histories; and the interdependent layers of the landscape—the soil and territory—and the corporeal, her body, all reimagined through her own imaginative language and worlds, and viewed from the cosmos. Stunning botanical prints on rice paper explore Mitrani’s recurring symbols of the watching eye, Indigenous iconography, and alchemical texts. Video animation by #AlexCzetwertynski.
