Video/Film. The movie Museo (2018) is based on the infamous heist wherein two young men stole 140 artifacts from the National Museum of Anthropology. The film shows many shots of the young men scoping out the museum during the day in preparation for the heist, it also shows scenes of the men walking through the museum at night during the actual heist. The shots that take place after hours lack consistent lighting, instead they use the few security lights, the moon, and the flashlights of the perpetrators. This light makes the open spaces in the exhibits look even more vast and imposing to the viewer. In the dark the umbrella in the courtyard looks as if it were some sort of sacred otherworldly figure, the floating effect being heightened by the lack of definition. These all work together to transform the museum into a surreal and almost mystical environment.
