The attack on #ClubQ shows the reality of how our society views trans and other queer lives. As a community we have known an attack like this was coming. We have felt it in the increase of violence and daily hostilities which we have all seen and felt. And we have seen it in the increase in legislative attacks on our community through hundreds of bills this year. That’s why, if politicians are serious about protecting us, they will pass real protections for our community like the Equality Act and invest in our economic, education, health and housing wellbeing. This is not the time for us to focus on gay marriage like the Senate is doing with a bill headed to the floor for a vote. We are beyond symbolism at this point.
