Happy Windrush Day!!!!!! This project was inspired by the Caribbean migrants who arrived in the UK on the SS Windrush boat in 1948. I recall a story by Mr Enrico Stennett, who described living in a bomb shelter after he had arrived in the UK, where his clothes and skin were eaten by maggots. This story inspired the knit textures I created seen in the photographed garments. I also drew inspiration from the migrants' descriptions of life back home in the Caribbean incorporating references to food, music, plants, beaches, the colour of the buildings, and the zoot suit fashion of the time. This also inspired the imagery taken for this project. The Project title, Home Is Now But A Dream I Sometimes Dare To Recall, is a quote found in the Slavery Museum, Liverpool, which captured the sentiment and sense of nostalgia I wanted for the work. - Delores Oblitey Home Is Now But A Dream I Sometimes Dare To Recall series Images - I was Invited, I Answered, Brotherhood & Gone Abroad Currently apart of the #NAE22 exhibition @new_art_exchange in Nottingham if you have time definitely go have a look and see all the other amazing artist exhibiting
