#Placemaking was last Sunday’s @americans4arts #ShowYourArt2022 National Arts and Humanities Month challenge topic— and we’re keeping it going today! The Regarding Paul R. Williams photo lightbox exhibition by photographer @jannaireland explores the groundbreaking work of Paul Williams, the first Black member of the #AmericanInstituteofArchitects. Decades before the Civil Rights movement, Williams built homes for Hollywood and society clients in LA neighborhoods where redlining restrictions prevented him, and all people-of-color, from living. His enduring architecture, and the legacy of redlining, still impact the LA landscape today. “Through his genius and unflagging dedication to his craft, Williams overcame a series of incredible challenges at times working for clients too prejudiced to shake his hand and designed homes in neighborhoods he wouldn’t have been allowed to live in, to become an emblematic legend of Los Angeles.” -Janna Ireland Janna Ireland has documented the legacy of Paul Williams through intimate black and white photos, even publishing a book on his work. Reflecting on this, we invite you to ride, visit and consider the significance of a BIPOC artist of one generation documenting the work of another BIPOC artist. 📍 The series is now on view at Universal City/Studio City station as part of Metro Art’s Photo Lightbox Series. 🔗 Tap the link in our bio to learn more about Janna Ireland and the Photo Lightbox Series. 🗓 All this month for #NAHM, #MetroArtLA is highlighting our current Photo Lightbox Series exhibitions that connect with one of the daily #AmericansForTheArts selected themes. @metrolosangeles
