This photo is from 3 years ago today. It was taken after one of the most difficult 24 hours of my life. I had just finished my 35th marathon in 33 days on my run from Asia to London, I was experiencing a level of exhaustion I didn’t even know existed. • I was harassed all evening by a prostitute • Ran away from pimps • Hid all night on the side of a motorway • Ran out of phone battery • Crippled my body • Got lost in Hungary Everything had gone wrong. When the sun rose up the next day I used it to navigate west and found an unlocked public bathroom. I walked in, splashed water on my face, looked in the cracked mirror and saw the face of a man with a life defining decision to make. 1. Congratulate myself on the huge progress I had made and get on the first flight to safety. 2. Grit my teeth with everything I had and find a way to stay in the fight for another day. I chose option 2, why? Maybe because I had something to prove to myself. Maybe because I had something to prove to everyone who didn’t believe in me. Maybe for the shear fuck of it. Whatever the reason, when I completed the marathon the next day I found a guy in a petrol station who sorted me a shower and a tinny. I looked at the map and saw I was halfway to London. I then went on to stay in the fight for another 33 days and set a new world record that changed my life forever. When the life defining moments comes, how will you handle it?
