But, I’m going to explain why “we” did not cause the climate crisis. Language matters here. When 100 companies are responsible for 71% of industrial greenhouse gas emissions since 1988 and the world's richest 1% of the population produce more than double the carbon emissions of the poorest half of the world, “we” did not cause the climate crisis. Systems caused it. Capitalism caused it. White supremacy caused it. Blaming “humanity” as a whole means the 1%, these companies and our governments escape genuine responsibility. Whilst “we” might not have caused this crisis. We NEED to be the ones who tackle it. We will hold fossil fuel companies accountable. We will challenge white supremacy and disrupt capitalism. We are the ones to build new worlds. Change is not passive. It comes from all of us. It comes from collective action. So, join or set up a COP26 Coalition group in your local area - or join a different climate group in any way you can using whatever skills you have - and take part in the global day for climate action on 6th November.
