Finding a little bit of joy after what's honestly been a whirlwind the last couple of weeks.
I raced up in Derby a couple of weekends back at a keirin event, racked with guilt for taking time off coaching and not working on my PhD. That event went well and I ended up bagging myself a keirin jersey after placing 6th, but it also ended up being my last race for SES and so there were a few emotions around that too.
So, I had no idea how I'd feel going into @hhvwomen 's League the weekend just gone, but actually it was the most relaxed I'd felt at a race for a while, I had good legs and a lot of fun! I'm not sure what to put it down to, but I'm trying to figure that out for sure.
A road ride over to Herne Hill, followed by a bit of mountain biking turned out to be quite a good warm up for racing, setting me up nicely for:
2nd in the warm-up scratch
2nd in team pursuit
1st in the match sprint (against Sian who pushed me hard!)
4th in the elimination
Hopefully I can keep having fun and feeling strong, but I'm not sure how to deal with the guilt of not writing my thesis 24/7 when my hand-in date is in two months. But I do know that doing bike stuff is a good distraction, so any thoughts on how to manage it would be very welcome.
📸 Absolutely loved having @honorelliott stick around to get some snaps of the racing, but hopefully she'll be on the track riding with us soon!
