we gathered Friday for the first screening of “the spirit god gave us”—a sublime short by @michaeldonte_. Michael wanted the first screening to be intimate and communal—an audience made up of friends. thank you to everyone who showed up to make that possible. as an aside, this is the first independent project that i’ve executive produced (with several other friends like @yoloakili @jrbland @wade_davis28 and others). i made the choice to do so because we need more works that explore and make visible the lives of black queer people. i also believe in Micheal and respect his gift. and this is just the beginning of a long career of filmmaking to correct that. here’s to him and the brilliant constellation of talent that made this film possible. ps. @shakir.shakir, thanks for being the location 🔌.
