This is what years of plastic pollution flowing down a river looks like. In Bali, there isn't the proper waste management infrastructure that can handle all the trash generated by the community and tourists. So it often ends up in various rivers that flow through the island. From there it's carried downstream and into the ocean. Recently our crew came across this seawall that was caked with trash. Our crew spent a few hours pulling out pieces of trash one by one, and realized some of it had been stuck there for years. Let this be a reminder that we have to continue to advocate for larger, systematic change. Together, we can end the ocean plastic crisis.
