The word 'equinox' comes from Latin aequus, meaning 'equal,' and nox, 'night.' On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length. By this definition, September feels like a symbolic press of the reset button - and a literal representation of balance (or, we hope, balance soon to come). From here on out, the nights will become longer than the days; the time for quiet reflection will replace the time for bustling activity. We'll be donning our overalls for contemplative gardening work, reaching for our coziest of sweaters for brisk nights by the fire, and slipping on slinky knit sets for day trips to see leaves change from green to red, orange, yellow.
