해피 추석~ Happy Chuseok everyone! I used to celebrate this Mid Autumn Harvest Festival by making songpyun 송편, stealing a taste of every kind of jeon 전 my mom and aunties would make, eating fresh chestnuts off the trees my uncles would peel with their sickles during bulcho 벌초 (tidying up ancestors’ graves), enjoying outdoor picnic with nubiani 너비아니 and japchae 잡채 with my mom’s extended family. That was in Korea and I was a child. This is Michigan and I am no longer a child with her extended family of uncles, aunties, grandparents and cousins. But I can still whip a small celebration up. I’ve been celebrating this holiday for a couple of weeks now, testing recipes and writing essays on this holiday. Here are some pictures of that effort.
