“Gabo alone printed his work and his imagery had only the fundamental composition engraved in the block. It came to life as he inked each block, laid a piece of fine paper onto it and created a unique print. He used his hands, his fingers and his nails, or a variety of simple things like orange sticks or teaspoons, to press on the paper that lay on the inked block." Graham Williams of the #NaumGabo Estate. Naum Gabo’s main body of prints consisted of twelve images or 'Opera' from which he made numerous printed variants. None were editioned, but instead the artist used the woodblocks to create unique versions, in each case showing how, by altering colour, tone, paper and orientation, he could radically change the nature and balance of a single composition. Only a small number of these works remain in circulation. 🔗 Click the link in our bio to explore available works by the artist. ---- Naum Gabo; Opus Ten (WE 369), Date unknown Monoprint from professionally made end-grain block of Florida boxwood Paper and image: 30.4 x 35.4 cm . DM for further info and pricing --- #print #printmaking #monoprint #Opera #Constructivist #constructivism #woodblock
