How to angle ourselves correctly as the net gets smaller/angles get sharper, and how staying behind the puck helps us on lateral carries.
A quick teaching point about understanding how the amount of available net shrinks as the angle gets sharper. When we are working on getting the correct angle, it’s important to focus not on the distance that the puck moves, but rather the change in the line from the puck to the center of the net.
Also, a reminder for one of my goalies on how we can utilize the concept of staying behind the puck (credit to @jamiephillips30 ) when the puck is carried laterally. If we put our lead armpit in the line from the puck to the center of the net, we will be more on angle and square to a shot back against the grain, and can use our lateral momentum to shift into a shot that moves with the grain.
Remember to be patient, and have fun on the rink.
