“Remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice today so that we can live in freedom.
Remembering those who served and continue to serve in our armed forces.
Today is not just a day off work or school. It is a day to stand in gratitude for those who gave so much with us in mind.”

My grandparents served during WWII. My grandmother was an English war bride, who served as a nurse with the Red Cross on a mobile ambulance unit. My grandfather unfortunately passed before I could ever meet him, but he was a sergeant with Ottawa’s Cameron Highlanders.
Their love story is one movies are made about. My Grandfather was at a bar, during the war, with his buddies when my grandmother walked in. Upon seeing her, he told his buddies that he was going to marry her one day. He later approached her that night, placed his watch on her wrist, and told her - he was going to marry her.
And they did get married. They waited until the war was over. My grandmother wasn’t able to afford a wedding dress so they married in their uniforms. They returned to Canada together following the war, and lived on a farm outside of Brockville, Ontario. They had 7 children. #remembranceday #werememberthem #veteransday
