"Sometimes the last gig of a tour—as this performance at The Pour House in Charleston was—can feel anticlimactic, or like a whiff, as though there is too much emotion for the show to bear," notes @hissgoldenmessenger frontman M.C. Taylor. "But sometimes, maybe if you’re not thinking about it too much, you can trick yourself into thinking that it’s just the next in a lifelong string of shows and thereby lessen the pressure. That’s what I think happened in Charleston. We played with an ease that is often missing from the last night of a tour. The show is shaggy. It’s not perfect. I wish I’d sung some things better. But that’s not the point of these live releases. With this series we’re listening for some kind of collective magic that supersedes individual mistakes. And I think there was some of that in evidence at this show at the Charleston Pour House, one of our favorite small rooms to play and one of the centers of the Southeastern hippie universe.
