A revolutionary little nap! I did this photoshoot with @mettieostrowski to accompany the “Revolution” chapter from “The Big Reveal”—all about the connections between drag and queer and trans activism. I’ve been obsessed with our activist history recently. Over the last few years amidst new anti-trans and anti-drag laws, I’ve grown to expect every day that someone will ask me to defend drag or my queer identity and threats of violence, misinformation, loss of income has increased so much. I turn to history to remind me that progress and discrimination are cyclical, but that we have come an enormous way thanks to bold disruptions and acts of protest. I have felt a little withdrawn from social media out of sheer exhaustion. Kind of fitting that this photo is about someone taking a much-needed (or indulgent?) little rest. I think we all need our moments of pause. But I aspire to hurl more bottles and coins!
