This week, Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins became the oldest person to run 100 meters in an official competition at the age of 105. Ms. Hawkins got into running late in life (at the early age of 100), and it has become one of her many passions. She lives in Baton Rouge, La., where she takes daily walks and cares for trees on her property. She has four children, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was married to her late husband, Murray, for 70 years, after they had a wedding by telephone during World War II. What’s her secret? She says she doesn’t drink or smoke, she eats lots of fruit and vegetables, and she looks for “magic moments” in her life.
