Quite a few updates to the front suspension, let's dive into the details.
First major update was switching to some @procarinnovations billet aluminum LCAs. Beautiful parts, well machined and very trick! These use spherical bearings in all the joints with rubber dampers on the shock fork to limit rotation. The main reason I swapped to these was to correct the ball joint angle. With the Kingpin/OEM arm, the ball joint angle was pretty severe at my extreme bump travel, especially with the @honed_developments XXL ball joints. Ignore the tear in the ball joint boot, it will be replaced.
Another benefit to the PCI arms is the two M10 threads to bolt a sway bar endlink to. This will come in handy with my custom sway bar setup. Also, as a result, I'm able to swap to non-sway bar radius rods which free up space, are lighter and identical between L&R (more spares options).
Unfortunately these thicker LCAs combined with the Honed Ball joints caused clearance issues with the rotor during bump travel. This was expected and luckily @fastbrakes9 came to rescue with custom rotor hats to push the rotor outward 5mm as well as the caliper. This meant the wheel had to go outwards 5mm as well to clear the caliper. Its a game of millimeters ha!
Last few changes were PCI inner bronze bearing mounts for the UCA. These replaced my sphericals since adjust camber was a PITA with the three peice arm, it would pivot and rotate which meant camber/caster was a guessing game.
On the topic of UCA, this is the critical component to make this extreme travel work. I'm using an older PCI arm withva custom center block machined and designed by @pat_at_old_boys. The block is angled to correct the spherical angle and prevent over rotation. At max bump, the UCA is angled about 45 degrees!!! Clearances to the block design and upright is super tight on left and right lock, but steering rack stoppers prevent binding.
Finally, I tweaked the bump stop setup. I noticed a few hit marks after the first test event. Went to a stiffer green bump stop and added a few more packers from @honed_developments and resuspension. The packers allow me to fine tune bump stop engagement and prevent the UCA contact.
