Tomorrow is #DenimDay 2022 🦋👖 wear your jeans with purpose . ~ This month is Sexual Assault Awareness Month(SAAM) and I wanted to honor use this season to share a very personal and special awareness campaign to spread the message of “DENIM DAY“ ~ Denim Day is a campaign in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling in 1992 by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices “felt” that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. #VictimBlaming & #Gaslighting The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Upon the steps of the court house was hundreds of women in denim, showcasing their support for the survivor. Indicating that no matter how tight their jeans may be... is NEVER an invitation for rape or implied consent. Since then, what started in Italy in the 90s lead to local campaigns in LA to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement all across the world today. As the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history, Denim Day asks community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. Denim Day 2022 is TOMORROW April 27th! Where millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose, support survivors, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence.
