Guests listened from sailboats, kayaks, and strolling on the sandy shore as the waves lapped near the piano on another glorious summer evening in Central Oregon. A highlight of the concert at East Lake Resort was when Sister Maximilian Marie joined Hunter Noack to perform Schubert’s Ave Maria. East Lake Resort is a serene mountain escape within the Newberry volcano, part of the 54,000 acre Newberry National Volcanic Monument. This active shield volcano has 400 vents, more than any other volcano in the lower 48, is 620 square miles, and has been active for over half a million years, with the most recent volcanic activity 1,300 years ago, where a massive obsidian flow erupted within the caldera. Arrowheads made from this obsidian rock were used for hunting and trading have been found across the Americas.
