Continued from @stab... @kellyslater at Lowers — it all starts to blend together. He practically owned the break for 25 years. Even a few months ago, in free surfs leading up to the WSL Finals, he was out there doing some of the most precise turns ever. This was 2010 and probably the best wave quality year of the Hurley Pro, which equates to a zero percent chance of beating Kelly. I can’t recall who he smashed in this particular heat, but it was a memorable wave on the way to another eventual win against Bede Durbidge in the Final. Can’t really see Kelly complaining if they held the WSL Finals here during his prime era. He’d probably have a few more World Title trophies. There’s some truth that the best surfer in the world is usually also the best surfer at Lowers.
