Yes, we we’ve been working at Kew Gardens to install a mushroom bed as part of Kew’s newly refurbished Kitchen Garden. From left to right we’ve laid down two beds which have Oyster mushrooms and King Stropharia (Wine caps) within them. Along the back wall you’ll see a series of gorgeous logs - these have been inoculated with Lion’s Mane, Shiitake and Velvet Shank (Enoki). We’ve used the dowel method and warm and cold strains of mycelium so we’ll be seeing these mushrooms growing at different times of the year. Then stacked intermittently we’ve two chunky totems for Chicken of the Woods and Hen of the Woods. These are currently covered with potato bags while they inoculate. Lastly, in the corner we’ve a straw bale wrapped in chicken wire that’s ready to grow Pearl Oyster Mushrooms. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing with you how we’ve set up each element to help inspire you too to get growing. Depending on the size of your garden, balcony or allotment there’ll be something for you.
