I’d rather go to a concert in another country than a city in Poland, but there are exceptions - such was Will Guthrie and Nist-Nah Ensemble, who played last week in Warsaw and Bydgoszcz. The ten-people orchestra performs original music, based on multi-layered possibilities of gamelan. All kind of gongs and drums could be counted in the hundreds on stage. However, there was no room for tricks, but rather meticulously played pieces from the "Elders" album - full of mathematical precision, polyphony, mutual observation and vigilance, but also the lightness with which the leader himself played his kit. The musicians repeatedly changed instruments, playing them using the resonance of space or... the floor, on which the scraping cymbals created brilliant metallic textures. Full concentration and keeping the audience in suspense! The band is touring in Austria, Portugal, France and Spain in September and October. Make sure to catch them when possible!
