Meradalir volcano 🌋 located a few hundred meters away from Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano - a 7 month eruption that took place last year. These two volcanos are clearly deeply connected and mark an exciting new volcanic era in Icelands south western peninsula. It started as a 300 metre crack in the earth. With molten rock bubbling up from the earths core, as two tech-tonic plates separate. Quickly developing over its two week life span into a single crater with 200m high lava geysers. I was fortunate enough to see last years eruption - Fagradalsfjall volcano. However, poor weather conditions meant I was never able to see or shoot the crater. As soon as I heard about the new eruption I knew I had to book a flight to iceland as soon as possible to experience mother natures greatest power once again. Over the 10 days I spent there I watched the volcano change and grow. A birth of new land. Rapidly developing. I visited it three times in 8 days. The day after my last visit, it finished and the lava was nowhere to be seen. Even though it ate one of my fpv drones, I feel very fortunate to have experienced it in it’s short life span. I thought these experiences would be one in a life time but now I have seen it twice in the space of a year. It’s definitely giving me a new bug for volcano chasing and I can’t wait for the next to start. Shooting it is one thing, but sitting there admiring the power is so hard to describe. I took this image on my first visit to the volcano on the 12th of august 2022. More images and fpv footage to come!
