Last June, I came across a forum listing that led me to impulsively buy a classic SL 500. A few weeks later as it was on an enclosed trailer from Oregon to New Jersey, I was driving through the Côte d’Azur with friend and journalist Hannah Elliott (@hannahelliottxo) as we tested out the then-new Aston Martin DB12. Of course, I can’t keep it to myself so we start chatting through my entire journey. A few weeks after the trip, I get a message from Hannah asking if I’d be open to chatting more for Bloomberg’s “How’d You Get That Car?” series. The conversation covered it all — from the first SL in my family to what made this one so darn special. A low-mile example in Brilliant Silver with a unique navy interior and the ever-elusive panoramic roof. We talked about Qawwali and my love for Nusrat. For Bloomberg. But by the time the article published in October (link in bio if you want to read), the car I planned to keep for a long time was about to find a new home. Space isn’t infinite and some opportunities just can’t be missed. More on what came next soon. As I take a rare moment to breathe and reminisce, I can’t help but feel grateful.
