It is our great pleasure to introduce COHORT 04: NXTHVN’s 2022-2023 class of Studio and Curatorial Fellows!! This amazing group of nine artists and curators were selected from more than 400 submissions from around the world. Please join us in welcoming the newest addition to NXTHVN: Anindita Dutta, Modupeola Fadugba, Donald Guevara, Ashanté Kindle, athena quispe, Edgar Serrano, Cornelia Stokes, Capt. James Stovall V, and Kiara Cristina Ventura. Representing cultural backgrounds that include African American, Dominican American, Indian, Indigenous-Honduran-German American, Nigerian and Peruvian-American, and traveling to Dixwell from locations such as Abuja, Nigeria; Altadena, CA; New York City; and Syracuse, NY, these Fellows’ practices comprise a range of disciplines including sculpture, painting, installation and collage. NXTHVN’s yearly fellowship catalyzes momentum at a pivotal point in the careers of artists and curators, and cultivates long-term creative connections through mentorship, professional development and hands-on training. In line with NXTHVN’s vision of providing intergenerational mentorship, each Fellow is paired with a New Haven public high school student to guide them in their artistic and/or curatorial ambitions. The Fellowship program culminates in a group exhibition at a prominent gallery, situating fellows squarely in the art world.
