We're saddened that Tom Phillips, painter, writer, collagist and composer, has died. Phillips is famously known for 'A Humument', a Victorian novel which he turned into an extraordinary work of art over 50 years. ๐Ÿ“– Phillips picked up the novel, โ€˜A Human Documentโ€™, in 1966 in a junkshop in South London with the intention to start a new art project. He randomly selected the title when browsing bookshelves with his friend, painter Ron Kitaj. The book would become the basis of Phillips' best-known work, โ€˜A Humument: A Treated Victorian Novel originally by W.H. Mallock.โ€™ ๐Ÿ“– Vast and detailed, Phillips transformed every single page with rich collage, painting and illustration. All the while he left small lines of text peeking through in serpentine bubble shapes, forming a story about life's memorable moments. ๐Ÿ’™
