Back in 1999, while hosting Hollywood Squares, I bought a 1978 VW Beetle convertible in Venice, CA. Accompanied by my east coast neighbor Steve (who took every photo except the one he’s in), I drove it from Los Angeles to Connecticut. There were a few mechanical challenges along the way, and not just for us. At one point we noticed a young mom whose car had a flat standing by the car on the side of the road. Swinging into Good Samaritan mode, Steve & I stopped, put on her spare tire, and sent her on her way. It was only later, as we continued our drive, that we saw the “thank you” gift she’d left us as she & her child sat in the VW while we changed her flat. It was a silver ring with the word “Peace.” I still have the car. And the ring is still there. ☮️ #throwbackthursday
