The bully is actively trying to cause harm or humiliate others. Bullies derive pleasure in seeing others suffer. It makes them feel powerful and in control. Standing up to bullies is an obviously risky strategy with potential long-term mental health benefits. In our competitive environment, high ethical standards become a competitive advantage. Are bullies being shown quickly to the door or are they getting a pass to stay, because they are really important to the team? Standing up to bullies for yourself and for others is a moral responsibility of every leader and in fact, or every decent human being. Life is too short & precious, to spend it hurting.
