A selection of moments before and since the first issue of @arabbitsfoot. There is a Polaroid the team took after it was sent to the printers, preceded by a sigh of relief (and then what-if-this-goes-wrong fear and delirium). The boss gazing over the pages on his floors as his dream takes shape. A guerrilla marketing campaign on the streets of London (I crossed one drunk, by chance, the other day). Thierry Frémaux, director of Cannes, toasting the issue—in another surreal moment that made me feel as though I were drunk. There is also Anna and Charles at the Cap hotel, plotting our next move. The second issue is on its way soon, which is why it’s so right to look back at the month and a half that culminated in the first edition, a book about film, art, and more, from the mind of @charlespfinch — who taught me so much, and to whom I’m grateful for the opportunity to join as a deputy editor. Apart from meeting incredible writers like @ticklishtash and @mrjasonsolomons and corresponding with Wes Anderson to Isabelle Adjani to many more, the biggest surprise is in just how much I like the people I have made this with: Fatima, Anna, Luke, Tristram and Charles. Frankly, this was a fish out of water experience for me—and there was a lot of learning on the job—but as the second issue is underway, and as it appears bigger, and perhaps better, it reminds me what can be done when you work with people who care, when you insist on pursuing bonkers, but terrifically creative stories, and when you’ve replaced sleep and sanity with lost nights of writing and editing, but feel, nonetheless, a shock of happiness each day; knowing that you’re a part of crafting something that will mean something forever. To us, at least. If you’re interested in getting a copy of our work, before issue 2 is out, go to a-rabbitsfoot.com.
