.: a friend said to me, Asians have to deal with our own internalized racism against other communities of color. The statement has clung to me like a wound that aches when I move and twist my body. The analogy positions me as inactive, unable to affect the rate that the wound might heal. Unlearning racism takes multiple conversations and revelations, and many many illustrations of injustices to possibly an unwilling listener. I admit I resisted the idea that Asians must take responsibility for the violence on our bodies, but it’s true. It’s there.
