Reflective 🖤
Sharing this exceptionally beautiful piece of antique Victorian jewellery from the 1860s. Most likely mourning jewellery which became de rigueur with Queen Victoria mourning her dear Prince Albert for forty years, wearing nothing but black to symbolise her grief, loss and unending love. This included her jewellery and French and Whitby jet were greatly favoured. The intricacies of this piece are exquisite. Delicate yet impressive. Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II’s Great Great Grandmother, transformed the style of mourning jewellery away from the more macabre of the Georgian era turning to more elaborate feminine jewels symbolising grief through their colour. This piece tells a story and has survived over one and half centuries without incident. If only it could talk. This week I think it does 🖤
Have a lovely weekend, Jennifer x
